Venice fest winner roars into Iran box office

Venice festival award-winning title reigns at Iran box office for this week with popular demand for 30 special screenings.

Venice festival award-winning title ‘No Date, No Signature’ roars into Iran box office for this week with popular demand for 30 special screenings.

Internationally acclaimed Iranian film directed by Vahid Jalilvand is currently reigning at the domestic box office with sold-out screenings over the last few days, a media report said Wednesday.

Not being able to get into sold-out screenings, some of the moviegoers ended up attending 30 special screenings, the report adds.

Navid Mohammadzadeh who starred in the flick won the awards for Best Actor at the Venice Horizons section of the 74th Venice Film Festival in 2017.

US entertainment outlet Variety has reviewed ‘No Date, No Signature’ as “a handsomely made, exceptionally well-played drama.”

“Kaveh Nariman is a coroner in the medical examiner's office. One day at his work he meets a corpse which is very familiar to him,” the flick brief synopsis read.

The review praises Navid Mohammadzadeh’s performance, saying “all four main actors are in top form, but it’s Mohammadzadeh who steals the show in his scene at the poultry plant, when his desperate monologue takes on an epic, Shakespearean quality as he throws all his physical force into a verbal storm of pained outrage.”

The notable Iranian actor was awarded at the 35 edition of Fajr Film Festival for the same movie in 2017.
